Hayes Barnard gets nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Northern California Awards

Hayes Barnard & Lyndon - Paramount Equity®

As a CEO, one of your biggest jobs is to be a leader for those in your company. And leadership sometimes necessitates putting yourself out there and being in the spotlight. This is one of the biggest struggles for me – I think all the recognition should go to my very talented team, not myself. So it was with trepidation that I learned I had been nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Northern California Awards.

This is a serious award – leaders of great companies, such as of Elon Musk of Tesla, Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google, and Lynn Jurich of Sunrun have all received this award in the past. While it was a great honor to be nominated, and then make it to the semifinals, I was apprehensive to share the spotlight with so many distinguished entrepreneurs from San Francisco and the Silicon Valley. Happy Father’s Day from Hayes Barnard, Paramount Equity®!

Hayes-Barnard-w-children

Happy Father’s Day to all those dads out there this weekend! Having three wonderful children of my own, Father’s Day brings me so much joy and fulfillment. On this day, I’d like to encourage fathers to view the world through the eyes of their children. Kids see the world through a wondrous lens that’s full of imagination, creativity and, most important, fun!

Father’s Day was created in 1909 by Sonora Dodd, a daughter who was listening to a Mother’s Day sermon and decided to create such a day for her own dad, a widowed Civil War vet who raised his six children on his own. In this light, we’ve seen the role of dear old dad shifting. Currently, there are about 70 million fathers in the U.S., about 2 million of those are single fathers, and 176,000 were “stay-at-home” dads in 2011. These married fathers with children younger than 15 have remained out of the labor force to care for upwards of 332,000 children for at least one year while their wives work outside the home.

This Father’s Day is particularly special for me because I will be attending the U.S. Open golf tournament with my father and my son, Luke. I met my father when I was 30 years old and we’ve created a bond through golf, a sport for which we share a common passion. Through I did not have a relationship with him growing up, seeing my son share time with him allows me to imagine what it might have been like when I was young. We’ve shared so many special moments these past years reconnecting and watching my son grow, and I’m looking forward to creating more of these memories as we spend time bonding over this weekend of golf.

On this special day, take the time to go back to that time of childlike wonder and fun, and cherish the moments spent with your fathers and children.

Leadership: Igniting Extraordinary Results Through Passion, Purpose and Love

by Hayes Barnard

Through growth, adversity and achievement, entrepreneurs wear many hats. To successfully scale a company, business leaders need to make the transition from “entrepreneur” to “professional,” and from an entrepreneurial company to a professional company.

Often, a singular leader leads in a singular fashion and it’s all about one person’s goals. As a leader of a growing group of talented individuals, I have discovered the value of thinking and leading more globally. There’s a saying: “Human beings hallucinate when not communicated to.” As a company grows, a leader needs to, early and often, address any undertones or rumblings that take place culturally within an organization. Our leadership team developed a weekly company-wide, interactive video conference to connect the hearts of our team. We talk about what’s working, share information and ideas, and address challenges to gain genuine perspective and rapport. It’s a time to ask transparent questions and it allows the organization to be authentic. This provides the whole group access to leaders and creates trust. It reminds every one of our company’s purpose and the principles that enable our customers to enjoy doing business with us. Continue reading the rest of this story >>
